The user profiles weren't migrated. Everyone will need to create a fresh account. We are archiving the last forum, so you will soon be able to access all of the data there.
It would be nice, if links could be identified easier by giving them a different color than the rest of the text. This is a link <- is a link but does not look like one…
We agree about the gender question; it's not our decision. It's not a preference in the forum software. I also agree about the links. Hopefully this is something Florian can look in to.
@jstutters removing the entry from the software would mean we can not do any future updates easily. I have (visually) removed the gender input from all registrations and the user edit form.
@mbraendle I too think a rating would be nice as it makes it easier to find solutions in longer discussions. @REAS what do you think? ... i looked around and there seems to be an addon for it.
@REAS, is the content still being migrated? any ETA? Will the links remain the same? I've noticed all google search results point to an empty 404 page.
@diegozaks no, not finished. I'm working on it but it will take days not hours (given the speed of Zoho and the number of pages). The links will not remain the same and Google will have to catch up eventually ...
@diegozaks, @REAS i added a htaccess file to the root of forum.processing.org that should take care of the redirects to the static Zoho content that we currently have.
For some reason, this forum cannot be loaded in my Firefox. I am viewing it, and typing this, in Chrome.
Am I the only one with this problem?
I cleared my cookies...
@PhiLho i have it working on all my browsers ... FF, OP, CH. I had a redirect loop problem initially in Chrome but that went away after i cleared cache and cookies. Can you try opening a direct link to one of the discussions?
@PhiLho
I had problems using FireFox at first, it just wouldn't connect. I eventually solved the problem by clearing out the entire history/cookies/offline content etc. and then FF connected straight away.
Your browser holds on to the old redirect on Zoho and that is a normal behaviour for modern browsers. But you will need to clear your cache to be able to access the forum with that browser. No way around it.
Yes, there is a redirect on the root / that forwards you to the current 2.0 forum at /two. It is a HTML redirect, not what is causing the problems with Firefox / Chrome.
The webpage at http://forum.processing.org/two/ has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.
Learn more about this problem.
Error code: ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS
I've cleared all browsing data, restarted Chrome etc, also it doesn't work from an incognito windows.
Chrome version Version 30.0.1599.69
OS: Osx 10.8.4
With Safari I have normal access (otherwise I couldn't write this).
I believe Openframeworks uses Akismet on their forum. This forum probably has better spam filtering than the last one, but maybe something to consider.
@newmiracle yes <code> is just for inline fragments just like backticks. Please use <pre lang="processing"> or simply indentation (by minimum 1 tab or 4 spaces) for longer (multi-line) code snippets.
@rbauer ... enabled Akismet and StopForumSpam here. We have to see how good that works.
@REAS we have another problem with bots spamming the activity logs, see here. Not sure this is caught by the AntiSpam plugin, might only be eased through moderated registration. Should we do that?
I am now able to access this forum from Firefox. I followed the last advice in the http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&p=9913601 thread (Forget this site in History). It stuck my browser for a long while, but finally it worked, without clearing the history and all).
@mbraendle@REAS, i enabled "Question & Answer" as a way to set a discussion as question (when you create it) and be able to mark it answered (and mark the proper answers/comments). This is not quite like rating but currently there is no (working) plugin that does it.
@REAS, i disabled that unregistered users can see profiles or activity. This should at least prevent search bots from indexing spam in the activity channel.
this worked for me. was a bit more complicated than that post says though, probably due to browser updates.
Firefox > History > Show All History (or just ctrl-shift-h) to get the list. you can then filter on 'processing.org' and then right click on the results
@koogs, @REAS, @PhiLho i wrote a small plugin for Vanilla that helps with the spam in the activities (general listing and on profile pages). It is hiding content from banned or deleted users and removes URLs from activities by users that have not yet started a discussion/question or posted a comment. We will see if that helps a little.

Is there a way to add a simple rating (e.g. thumbs up) for a thread or post?
Should our user profiles have migrated to the new forum?
The user profiles weren't migrated. Everyone will need to create a fresh account. We are archiving the last forum, so you will soon be able to access all of the data there.
I'm curious as to why the new forum sign-up is requesting gender. This seems completely unnecessary.
It would be nice, if links could be identified easier by giving them a different color than the rest of the text.

@tim_pulver done.
Thanks @fjen !

Ratings are cool with me @fjen
Ok, i will set up a test-server and try the addon there.
@REAS, is the content still being migrated? any ETA? Will the links remain the same? I've noticed all google search results point to an empty 404 page.
I'm not sure what "all Google search results" refers to. I'm getting results. From which page are you searching?
@diegozaks no, not finished. I'm working on it but it will take days not hours (given the speed of Zoho and the number of pages). The links will not remain the same and Google will have to catch up eventually ...

How does one change their profile pic? I can't figure it out.
You need to register your email at Gravatar
Okay, thanks.
@PhiLho @REAS I mean these links that come from search results.
@PhiLho I had problems using FireFox at first, it just wouldn't connect. I eventually solved the problem by clearing out the entire history/cookies/offline content etc. and then FF connected straight away.
@diegozacks yes these will be fixed soon.
major firefox problems here also, couldn't resolve them, switched to chrome...
is there a 'most recent posts' link?
(actually, i think that's the default, just click all discussions and it's sorted newest first)
@koogs .. yes the first link in the menu: "discussions"
@koogs what are the problems? did you clear cache and cookies?
i didn't clear cache or cookies - i WANT my cache and cookies.
"Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."
gets a page that redirects to /two
that works in wget but i can see why it confuses firefox - https://forum.processing.org/two/ redirects to http://forum.processing.org/two/ - which is identical apart from the protocol.
going directly to the second url just sits there...
and starting a new private session (= ignoring all cookies) doesn't help

Clearing your cache in Chrome, make sure you select "all time" and tick both the cookies and files options. Did that work?
I have to say that this new forum is worlds better than Zoho. Good choice.
@XYZZY .. thanks! Glad you like it!
using the "code" style formatting did not work properly for me
Looks like some spam is showing up: http://forum.processing.org/two/discussion/88/i-am-the-new-guy
Yes, we've had some spammers within the early hours of the new board. I've been deleting them quickly. I just removed that person.
I believe Openframeworks uses Akismet on their forum. This forum probably has better spam filtering than the last one, but maybe something to consider.

the activities page is full of people making accounts with spam links (and worse) in them
@koogs .. yes, i'm aware of this and looking for a solution.
