Getting into Design / Development

Hi,

I'm a Java Developer and I'm interested in potentially moving into the Interactive Design field, having come from predominantly Java-based serverside Telecomms. What I'm wondering is:
a) How difficult is it to 'switch' into Interactive design? Beyond the technical development skills, is there anything needed?
b) Are there positions available and where would I find them? Posting a CV on Monster and various other job boards only ends up deluging me with job opportunities with online gambling / mobile 'multimedia' companies.
c) Is there anything else I should know with regards to the industry - i.e. are specific cities / countries better for jobs / setting industry standards?

If it helps at all, my Linkedin profile lists my technical abilities and my vimeo site shows some of my experiments with Processing:

thanks,

Ryan
