java on IE 6

This is kind of embarrasing, but I just can't get Java Applets to work on IE 6.
I tried installing the plugin from java.com, but I always get an "are you sure the packet exists and you can access it?" error....
if somebodey could help me out
I would really appreciate it.

so were you able to fully install the java plugin? if so, once the install completed were you able to see the little test applet on the java install page (usually looks like a little java cup of coffee, i think)?
