I have been spending a lot of time with Processing and have loved every bit of it. But I feel like learning a bit of Java would be a good next step. My question is, what?s a good way to introduce yourself when you have a limited knowledge (JavaScript, ActionScript, HTML, and Processing) of programming. Is there any books that are that are geared towards complete beginners? I have looked around and have found that most of them seem a bit cheesy, and the ORA selection seems more directed towards those with readers with a bit more knowledge then I currently have.

Any help would be appreciated!

Bruce Eckel's "Thinking In Java" is one of the best books on Java, and given frequently in schools and companies.

And you can download it for free:

Or buy the dead tree version:

Also "Java 2D Graphics" by Jonathan Knudsen is pretty neat. O'Reilly Publications, ISBN 1-56592-484-3

Ben Fry compiled some notes on Java learning resources. You can find them at: http://acg.media.mit.edu/people/fry/explain/java/
