Drawing Machine - Lego Toaster

Drawing Machine In the beginning of this summer I finished a 5-week workshop (at the Royal College of Art) using Processing, Lego and electronics... Casey came by during the workshop and presented Processing. ------------ The workshop had three parts. 1) Make a mechanical drawingmachine with Lego. The goal was to gain a basic understanding of mechanics, using Lego bricks (no intelligent ones!) 2) Learn a new software environment and create a software drawing machine We were introduced to Processing - but, since I already knew it, my task was to develop a custom IO-board which would enable Processing to control Lego-motors. 3) Create a machine that leaves a message. Here the goal was to combine our new gaines skills (mechanics and programming). I made a "printer-like" Lego machine which can draw (burn) vector-shape messages onto pieces of toast bread. ------------ The project is posted here: www.beyondthree.com?chapter=rca&project=drawingmachine The source-code for the project is online, however, since the code was made specifically for the IO-board containing a PIC16F84 chip (I still need to post the PIC chip code!), it might not make a whole lot of sense. I wrote a tutorial for my fellow students, so they could understand the protocol for communicating with the IO-board and how you can do simple serial stuff with Processing. All of it is availiable through the above link. ...uhh, and yes, it was alot of fun!

| Thanks... I am planning more tangible stuff with proce55ing for my next semester - i'll post it here as the work gets done. on Aug 8th, 2003, 12:46am, mr.prufrock wrote:I look forward to see some jam and peanut butter there, too |
| to begin with I wanted to spread jam in patterns, but it ended up being too complicated (and messy) on Aug 8th, 2003, 9:39am, benelek wrote:if only someone had given me a piece of toast with my name burned into it when i was younger |
| Well, it's never too late to start playing with your food, now is it
