Would anyone be interested in a "subpixel-editor" ?

I have an idea to make a lightweight sub pixel editor.
Does it sound useful/interesting at all?

Can you say a bit more about what a sub pixel editor is and what it is used for?

Well, I haven't heard of an existing one but working with subpixels in a regular editor can be tricky as there's no tools for it as far as I know.

Also the term sub pixel might be new to some, you might know but I'll explain anyways.
The only context I'we heard of it is for font-smoothing.

The concept is using colors rather than grey scale gives better results.

Because of the alignment of red green and blue within the pixels.

That is if you're using any regular rgb panel,
which all laptops, desktops and tv's do.
Apart from a few obscure exceptions...
Tablets, and phones is a different story.

I'm not intending to make a font-editor though.
But a painting tool for drawing with sub pixels more easily.

  • Very interesting videos! I can see how this might be useful as a sprite editing tool.

I was curious whether there was anything else out there, and the only other kind of interface that I found was a very different approach:
