how to draw a curly brace (aka curly bracket)?

Any tips on drawing a nice smooth curly brace? I noticed that MS-PowerPoint has a curly brace "shape" (separate from typing the '}' character and adjusting it with a font). It looks nice (right pic) and when you create or select them you get a couple of yellow diamond adjustment points (left pic). What is that thing? How to replicate something similar in code? don't need to match PPT verbatim, I just need to draw braces of varying heights and widths, and the results are too fickle using plain text and fonts. Thanks for any help!
