audio responsive LED
any advice on setting up some audio responsive LEDs? the audio wouldn't be live. it's an mp3 or wav (ideally two files but i'll get there once i sort this out). any suggestions??? i would prefer to not use arduino unless it is much easier.

Does "to not use Arduino" mean you are hoping for a laptop / PC connection, or Raspberry PI, or something else?
Are there specific LEDs you are planning to use? Are these rope lights / strips, or do you mean individual LEDs plugged into a breadboard?
thanks @jeremydouglass - i sorted this out with arduino afterall using serial and minim.
