I keep wanting a keyboard shortcut for previous-tab and next-tab. On the IDE, the tabs' down arrow thing shows me that they are Ctrl+Alt+Left (,+Right). Sadly, on my HP EliteBook laptop this combination switches the orientation of the screen. Is the IDE configurable? then I could use Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab ? (I suppose Processing is open source so I could download... but that all seems too much.)

I haven't attempted to configure keyboard shortcuts for Processing, but there might be something in the preferences.txt file?
Alternatively, can you de-configure the laptop settings?
Thanks for the comments. I'd searched through the help IDE already, and now have looked at the preferences.txt. I might later attack the laptop settings but for now I'll use Notepad++ for any multi-tab projects.
