We are about to switch to a new forum software. Until then we have removed the registration on this forum.
Could we update the formatting post?
The README gives bad mac keyboard advice.
Currently:
Highlight your code. Press Ctrl+o (or Mac equivalent).
That is misleading, because it is the same on both systems. Normally when you say "Mac equivalent" that means APPLE+o. But that is bad advice -- it launches a browser file-open dialog.
Should be:
Highlight your code. Press Ctrl+o.
Many newcomers don't realize posts are editable at all! They repost new code below their old broken code. In many views the edit icon is a rollover and is hidden in the current forum software.
Should be:
Edit your post with "gear" icon. Highlight your code. Press Ctrl+o. Save.
Both clicks and pasted links to that sticky always go to "#latest" -- which is never what we want newcomers to look at first, and makes it harder for newcomers to see the advice being given to them.
Combining the three separate posts in README: How to Format Code and Text into one post would fix simplify.

Is updating even possible for anyone other than Administrators?(by anyone I mean Moderators)
Nope, I'm hoping a moderator will like this and act on it.
I hope too. And maybe the new members should be told specifically to read it as most newcomers just don't bother, and post questions. Then the older members have to tell them about it. Rather, why not have an automated message sent to all newcomers to read the page.
done
Thanks.
Will you ever implement the idea I gave?
Thank you, @koogs!
@Lord_ofthe_Galaxy, I'm not sure if moderators can change the Vanilla forum software new-user greeting email settings in the way that you are suggesting -- and if it isn't something they can quickly and immediately change, it might not be "their job."
However, if you want to look into whether customized new emails can be done and then suggest that somebody do it, perhaps do it on a separate thread in General?
Ok, I'll do that.
New thread posted - New welcome message.
