The variables you declare in a for-loop is only exist in that loop. If you want the variable j to be accessible from outside that loop you have to declare it at the top level (before setup()) and in the loop say for(j = 0;....)

But since j is set to changed all the way through the for-loop it will end up as the latest value it is changed to in the loop. Makes sense?

So at the third line from the bottom when you try to use the var j, j will be 30. It would be better if you just made a new var length with value 30 and access that.
