Are there any statistics on how many people use processing?

I'm writing a proposal for a course at a Community College Digital Art & Animation Department built around Processing. Does anyone have any statistics on how many people use Processing? How many classes are being taught in Processing? Or any other pertinent usage statistics to help convince the powers that be to approve a new course called "Programming for Visual Designers & Artists"?

Thanks! James Khazar

I don't think you will find statistics, it might be better to find similar courses run by prestigious educational establishments such as MIT to support your argument.

You might try joining the Processing Educators group. It is not extremely active but you can find people who actually use Processing for teaching in their fields.

  • Like quark said, those kinds of statistics are going to be pretty hard to find.

One thing you can do is compare its activity on GitHub (pulse and graph) to similar projects. It's not exactly what you're looking for, but it's at least a way to get actual numbers.

Another approach might be to just provide a bunch of example artists that have used Processing. Aaron Koblin, Bees&Bombs, etc.
