GSMovieMaker / Requirements
May 6th, 2010, 6:57am

Hello,

i have a question. I use on windowsXP+SP3 the GSMovieMaker for recording processing screen.
If i use THEORA, have the video after every 2 sec. jumps.
If i use X264, is the file not playble (VLC)
If i use XVID is the file not realtime. Playback is little bit slower and have V-Sync Problems.
What are the system requirements (Software, Codecs, ...) for using GSMovieMaker with a good video file.

Yes, I noticed the problems you mention with GSMovieMaker. This is tricky and it will take some time to properly fix. It is probably not an issue with GSVide per se, but something related to the underlying encoding plugins from gstreamer.

Theora enconding used to work fine on the three platforms (win, linux, mac), something changed in the latest releases of the theoraenc plugin which results in the jumps. The encoder has many parameters:

I guess that hand tuning some of them will eventually solve the problem.

x264enc, on the other hand, seems to be working fine on Linux...
