I think your description would benefit from a little more detail - I'm intrigued, but not at all sure what you're trying to achieve...

Also not sure if it's intentional, but if you press 1 or 2 repeatedly before pressing 3 then each press triggers the call to scale(2), meaning your picture gets bigger and bigger to the point it's not recognisable any more.

I have made a concept sketch of what I am trying to achieve.

http://www.openprocessing.org/visuals/?visualID=8932
...

Basically it's a 2d drawing program using ellipses or rectangles pulling the
pixel colour from the actively selected sketch
The default shape will be a rectangle (it will be filled with pixels
from the actively chosen sketch)
This sketch uses colours which represent the pixels from the selected sketch
The moving palette bar will be used to select the individual sketches
The lock icon will be used to lock a sketch in place
The home icon will be used to select the favourite sketch
Once a sketch has been locked in place it cannot be unlocked.
It can only be replaced by a 'favourite' sketch
The lock and house buttons will increase in size when the mouse is
near and will react to the mouse wheel allowing the use to cycle the
brightness and transparency of the sketch
Eventually the 2d version's background picture will be replaced with a 2d image of the earth's globe
The 3D version will require 3d-glasses and will use a 3d globe to represent the sketches

It will use the awesome piece of code by bit.craft from these forums

http://www.openprocessing.org/visuals/?visualID=8236

It has been added to openprocessing.org useful little tools section
Basically the premise of SLIDE will be a meta-online sketch rowser. The sketch will be made up
of a series of skeches :
www.openprocessing.org
www.hascanvas.org
processingjs.org
www.processing.org
www.builtwithprocessing.org
www.sketchpatch.net
sketches you happen to come accross on the world wide web
www.croopier.com
www.obessing.org
your own sketches

Basically an electronic companion the likes of www.builtwithprocessing.org
