Dumb question:
does anyone actually click on the links in spam messages
I mean, really
Unless the spam is crafted to look like a discussion about Processing and has a disguised link (supposedly to something else), what intelligent person is going to click on them As for anyone that perhaps isn't so bright, maybe they will learn after clicking on a few.
Still remove the spam when detected, but I don't think it matters whether there is a link in it or not.
I just had a look at the
YaBB Help Center and didn't see anything that looks like there is an option to have a moderation queue for new users (that is, where new users' posts do not automatically appear and must first be approved by a moderator).
However, there are options to limit access to Boards based on Member Groups. If a new users is automatically assigned to the newbies Post-Dependent Member Group, then there could be a Board where newbies (and anyone else) can post freely; a Global moderator can then
manually move newbie posts from the newbies board to the appropriate location (if relevant) and
manually allocate newbie users to a different Post-Dependent Member Group which is allowed access to all other Boards.
This will limit first-time-poster spam to the newbies board.
There are also
YaBB Mods available to provide "report to moderator" links for elsewhere in the forums.
