Capture output of VLC Streaming Server
Feb 21st, 2010, 3:29am

I would like to visualise data collected by a physical device over a movie projected to an audience.

One of the approaches I though of would be to set up a streaming server and get Processing to capture this and add the visualisation before displaying the movie through the display device. VLC would be good because it can play anything and is easy to set up as streaming server.

jmcvideo should make that possible, but looking at the examples it seems to be only suited for playing a file served by a web server. I need to to vlc as a player so I can control the playbacks and use processing only to manipulate the output before sending it to the projector. I tried to modify one of the examples by pointing it at "http://127.0.0.1" and got "media type" not support message.

Has anyone else attempted and succeed with this? If not, can you suggest any other approaches?

Thanks,
David
