vertex() does not behave like point()

So I'm drawing a bunch of points. I transform to a location, then draw a ring of points by using rotate. If I use point(), I get a nice ring like I want. But if I do beginShape( POINTS ) and use vertex, I get them all on one spot.  vertex() seems to be affected by transform(), but not by any of the rotation functions, or the rotation matrix. Is that right? Or am I missing something?
