Why is text() in OPENGL so fu***** slow`?

I know that there are problems with text in OpenGL, but why are these implemented if they slow down  a whole sketch that dramatically?

E.g. I use OPENGL mode in 60fps. When I draw a scentence it drops to 40fps.

What is the solution for that? (Using no text is no option, sorry)

Suggestions welcome.
