LCD Panel Screens
Nov 9th, 2009, 4:51am

Hello,

I just need to show my small P5 sketch showing on the type of LCD screens like those commercial LCD picture frames.
I have no experience with any physical computing stuff before, so I'm quite ignorant. So, anyone who played around with those small (say 5 to 10 inch) LCD screens, any type of advice will be very much appreciated.

some questions come up in my mind now;

-what type of LCD screen I need to buy? where to buy in europe?(germany and the area) how much does it cost in general?
-is it possible to use LCD screens from old lap top? how?
-how do I connect my mac mini to LCD screen? Do I need any special type of connections or just VGA adaptor will be fine?

'sorry it seems that my question is a bit lazy. but I DID google it for a while and it is very difficult to get the idea because there's so many things without proper explanations, and most of them manufacture sites that gives very specialized technical specifications...

anything, really anything, a website, a blog, a simple comment, a bonjour, even an insult...etc. anything regarding to use of small LCD screens with P5 will be very very very helpful for me.

thank you very much.

Most of the picture frames available are probably not good in your case as they have a really bad refresh rate. Nevertheless are there some that can play videos and even have a composite(yellow RCA) or S-video input. anyway resolution would be probably not as good as a real screen as it is limited to Pal resolution.

but my first results on google showed me this. Maybe this is a good way to go. Resolutions seems to be high

thank you for the reply!

it's very helpful that you point out the bad refresh rate of picture frames, because I was just thinking to render my p5 sketch to movie file and put it into sd card to display on commercial picture frames.
this ps one lcd thing can be a good solution. I may need to make an ebay account...

however, I see some 'raw' materials on the web. like lcd panels totally not mounted. these are the panels to mount on the laptop pc..etc.

does anyone has some experiences with this kind of things?
