If you are familiar with fractals and the Mandelbrot set then you might enjoy seeing it in 3D.

Since the complex plane is 2D then there is a 'sense of falseness' in showing the Mandelbrot in 3D but it can be pretty as can be seen by following your link.

I have 'upgraded' the applet by increasing the detail level. The original Mandelbrot was calculated on a 250x250 grid, the size was selected to give reasonable rotation speeds using P3D (OPENGL was slower!).

The new version is 800x800 grid and is very fast on rotations. I did this by accessing the OpenGL commands directly.
