aab - engineering aesthetics?

aab - Processing is a remake of an old program I built a while ago.
It is an automatic composer of forms vaguely and loosely reminiscent of engineering aesthetics.

The program simply assumes a solid rectangular volume which it recursively and randomly subdivides in parallel planes (like an L-System) or grids, removing random volumes in the process.

Please tell me what you think!

This is excellent. I'd love to see more options, or even animation of the sections.

Jack,

Thanks for your comment. Adding more options regarding subdivision is a fairly easy task which I am thinking of adding for the next release. Animation, although a great idea, is a little bit tougher, since during the subdivision the intermediate tree structure that holds the divided volumes is not maintained. However, I would like to explore this possibility in the future (a new release maybe?)

Thanks again.

In my blog I uploaded a few renders of arrangements composed by aab, just to give the main idea.

A new release of aab is on my blog:

You can also find an applet version here:

xconst.freeshell.org/applets/aab/

Please note that in the online version you cannot export compositions.

Comments and suggestions are more than welcome.

Cheers.

To quote a certain cat online: "It's beautiful..."

It reminds me of 'urban decay'. Looks like war game cities could be made from these.

Thank you for your comments and suggestions.

@NoahBuddy: I'm very glad you liked it. aab was actually developed as a generator of abstract sci-fi backdrops initially.

I enjoyed playing with this - it activates the imagination. I saw some cool buildings, and some radical pieces of furniture appearing!
