Pixerlizer (Baby steps)
Jul 30th, 2009, 12:29am

Hi everyone, first post.

And first project also. In order to learn the basics of Processing I decided  to write a pixelation sketch. Of course inspired by, although trying not to look at the code of, Pixelate. After much referencing and trial and error the result, Pixerlizer can be seen here:

youngstarving.com/2009/07/pixerlizer-or-processing-baby-steps/ (oops, apparently I'm not allowed to post links just yet, please copy & paste)

I doubt this will impress much on the seasoned crowd but I thought I'd post it here, mostly to get my foot in the community door.

Thank you! Yes, it's already sent me off in other directions. Will probably post here again within a week.

I'm thinking of ways to improve performance without going down the"buy new hardware"-route.

Q: Is rect() considered slow? Would I be better off writing new color values to pixels[] before doing updatePixels()?

Or to rephrase the question a bit; Is it generally better to "brute force" things in Processing or should I stick to the ready made functions?

do not claim to be a processing expert, but am an experienced programmer. in general, if there is something built in i will use it. don't have much experience with rect function, i mainly manipulate photos - pixel by pixel...
