always liked playing with graphics, but figured i should play with sound too, it's early days, i don't have any real grasp on the aural canvas yet.  anyway, this is conway's game of life rendered in open gl and driving reason over midi.

I'm not getting any sound. Is that supposed to happen?

It's generating a midi signal, not an audio signal.  The actual applet doesn't produce any sound without having a midi device to play the signals it generates.  That can be done by installing Midi Yoke (on windows) http://www.midiox.com/index.htm?http://www.midiox.com/myoke.htm then mapping the Yoke device to whatever you are using (like Reason).  Anyway, it sounds terrible even if you do get it all working (I have a few example mp3s (http://log.fieldsofnoise.org/midilife.fieldsofnoise).  I have been reading about generative music and will hopefully have an update in a few days that produces something less ugly.  Maybe use a built in processing sound generator too, rather than midi (midi is just convenient for me since it plugs into my existing audio gear).

Cool, it looks like a Korg Kaoss pad.
I like flashing things. Smiley

Very neat. In order to be really useful for music you need some way to control tempo. Is that in the works?
