jmetude - setting volume doesn't work?

Have been banging my head against a wall trying to play back only one part of a parsed MIDI file using jmetude. Idea is to open a MIDI file then allow the user to listen to one part (voice) at a time.

I've been trying to use jmetude's setVolume method to silence the parts I don't want, but am having duff all luck. So far it has had absolutely zero effect on scores, parts or phrases! Has anyone had any luck with this method at all?

No responses either way? If other people have made this work then I'll presume I'm doing something stupid and will go back to the drawing board, but if not it seems like a fairly big flaw in the library...
