We closed this forum 18 June 2010. It has served us well since 2005 as the ALPHA forum did before it from 2002 to 2005. New discussions are ongoing at the new URL http://forum.processing.org. How to make a library for Processing

To create your own Processing library you can find instructions on the Develop Processing site. The number of contributed libraries is constantly growing and we thought it is necessary to develop a set of guidelines.

The contributed libraries are one of the most important aspects of the Processing project and have an enormous impact on how people understand Processing. Libraries have been designed into the larger Processing plan to enable simple extensions of the core API in new, innovative, and unexpected directions. The libraries are the future of the project. We don't plan to grow the core library extensively.

We put a strong focus on the importance of clear documentation, so please put a strong effort into communicating your library to potential users by hosting a descriptive website. Be sure to let us know where we can find the library's web page online.

Please inform us about the existence of your library by posting your contribution in the discourse section under "Libraries, Tool Development".

To be more clear, please note that we would like to link your library from the main reference if it follows the guidelines (see above link).

Andreas Schlegel is managing the libraries. If you want your library to be considered for the main contributed libraries list or if you have questions, please direct them his way.
