hi.. im trying to test MPE's test sample and im getting error with running the mpeServer.jar

i believe the error is that im trying to run it with a different version of java.. my java.exe version is 1.4.2_16

the error is exception in thread.... java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError.

processing version i use is 0138

anyone been able to get it running with earlier versions of java/processing..

im asking this because at their site the tutorial is not that recent.. goes back to 2007

thanks in advance

Are you on windows?  Sorry, this is my fault, I compiled the library with java 1.5 I think.  Let me know and I will fix!

shiffman,
i got the server to run with java 1.6.

im using the default ini files 400x400 master dimensions and 200x400 for each client.

thing is the balls do not move at all. there's noLoop() there to stop processing looping, but that should be handled by the frameEvent function from MPE.

what could be wrong ?

im doing localhost connection to port 9002.
server listens to that port, clients connect to it.

thanks in advance

Can you set "debug=1" in all of the .ini files (server and clients and tell me what appears?)

Sorry, there very likely may be mistakes in the downloads, I put them up in haste.  Will be revisiting them for my class which starts next week.

when i connect both clients the server messages alternate like:

Server receive: D,0,0
Server receive: D,1,0

one thing i've noticed is it seems to remove the connection before i stop the client's programs ?

"Removing Connection 0
MPEServer: resetting frame count."

is that normal?

hi
i'm also about to testsetup mpe on my machine (mac osx 10.5), did all the tutorial steps but when trying to run or export the sketch i do get the error

Type "Client" was not found.

/tmp/build63220.tmp/Temporary_9843_5710.java:8:1:8:6: Semantic Error: Type "Client" was not found.

/tmp/build63220.tmp/Temporary_9843_5710.java:11:24:11:29: Semantic Error: Type "Client" was not found.

/tmp/build63220.tmp/Temporary_9843_5710.java:23:16:23:21: Semantic Error: Type "Client" was not found.

Maybe I forgot to adjust the code somewhere, but I have no idea where. The mpeServer is running on Terminal, the ini files are in the searchpath of the sketch.

I hope somebody's out there to tell me what might be the mistake i made. Thanks a lot,

desperate brischitte

The name of the class in the new library is UDPClient, not Client so that might be the mistake.  Although I am thinking of changing it to MPEClient.  I don't want to use Client because of confusion with the processing.net library.

I have my first class meeting this Friday where we are using the library so I should be uploading new example files with various fixes by the end of the week.  They'll show up here:

thanks a lot for the quick reply Dan
this was indeed the reason
has there also been a solution to crmx's problem because atm I'm experiencing the same behaviour.
Looking forward to the new files Smiley

Hi there!

i'm testing the last release of the library. I'm running the server in a linux box, the clients are windows and linux machines runing the bouncing ball example. It starts running fine but after two or three minutes the movement stop for some time.

It is something to change in the code to change this behaviour?

Can't say for sure, unfortunately I've only tested the library on Mac OS X.  If you turn on debug=1; in each of the INI files (server & clients), the console messages may help find where / why it gets stuck.  Let me know!

hi there,

i am on a mac and just tried the tutorial, but i get this info in the debugging console (no balls moving):

Client: Settings: server = localhost:9002,  id = 0, local dimensions = 200, 400, location = 0, 0
Sending: S0
MPE CLIENT: I'm running!
Sending: S0
Sending: S0
Sending: S0
Sending: S0
Sending: S0
.
.
.
etc.

it seems, that
frameEvent(UDPClient c)
is never called

any ideas ?

thanks in advance

Looks like you never ran client #2 (or 3).  What are your server settings?  Are you running the server?

We're actively working on the library right now and will likely release a new (hopefully simpler) version in the next couple months!
