I friend of mine wrote a good post on this - unfortunately in Japanese - the main point being that the default Java renderer for Leopard is now the Sun renderer, not the Apple Quartz renderer.

If you look at the graphs on the above link you can see that some things are a lot slower using the Sun renderer - although pixel perfect across platforms Smiley

exactly--that's what those two lines i mentioned will alter, so that it uses the quartz renderer instead of the sun renderer (which will have a big impact on most p5 apps). this change is now built into release 0139, and i now have an external drive that i can use to boot leper, so we'll be straightening out more of this over the summer.
