Flickering in browser problem

Hi,
My Processing code and examples from the Processing site run great as an application but when executed as an applet the screen flickers (white areas appear between frames). The code executes correctly though.

The problem disappears on computers running latest browser versions(IE, Moz, Safari) and latest Java runtime.

Is there a programming fix so that I can run the code on older systems?
