The best sound library for signal processing?
Sep 18th, 2007, 7:08pm

Hi guys,
I was wondering what sound library you'd recommend for my project. Basically, it's going to be a bunch of effect boxes like you'd get for guitars - chorus, flanger, distortion, etc. It's going to take input from the Mic input, and I don't know how you'd do that. Are there any audio libaries that can, or am I just being silly?

I think it'd be better to use pd or max for that purpose.

I've found the page for PD, and it's under a license that wouldn't allow me to distribute it commercially, as far as I can see. I haven't found the page for Max, but I guess I should've pointed out that it will have to let me distribute it for money.

The reason is, my music teacher is opening up a music shop. All the effect pedals he sells are upwards of £50 (~$100) so they're not cheap. He says if I can make some, either physically or just a program, then he'll sell it for me and I'll get all the profit. I've looked at some circuit diagrams for flangers, etc., and they seem like quite hard work to be selling for a small amount of money, so I thought I'd give a software solution a try before I got my hands dirty with electronics Smiley.

I'm afraid to say that I don't think any of the processing libraries will be of much use. I think they all will unfortunately have too much latency to do real-time effects.

Sad

OK, thanks for your reply. Not the best of news, but helpful after all.

My Dad does electronics-type stuff for his work, so I should have access to all the components I'll need for making them Tongue

You can find plenty of DIY helpful ressources on the www actually. I'd really deal with electronics and analogic stuff for some effects like distortion.

anyway nobody will buy software version effects.
there's too many of them on the net, and i think it will be very hard to program one that is truly outstanding then commercialize...

but DIY effect boxes seems to be great solution.
i'd love to find some stuff like that in my local music shop!!
