Midi instruments

Hi all...

Looks like we macintel users finally have promidi (thanks tex!).

I still have a problem, though... I can image this is fairly simple, but I just can't figure my way: is there any way I can access the standard midi Quicktime instruments (or any standard midi output, for future cross-platform compatibility....) as the outputs?

With no midi interfaces connected, I can only see the "Java Sound Synthesizer" and I could never get sound out of it...

Thanks in advance!

Rui

I've been working on a project using proMIDI and have been sending it to a free application called SimpleSynth. By default this uses the Apple DLS Sound Set of instruments that I think you are referring too. You will get sound out of SimpleSynth, and its free...

Thanks!  This solution solves my immediate problem for osX. Still, if anyone nows a more cross-platform one...

I'm now considering jm-etude, with which I'm able to address the Java Sound Synthesizer, but the Apple DLS is perhaps a bit more polished, so in the end I'll probably use this anyway.

Thanks again,

Rui

I'm trying this but not having any luck. I am not able to get a devide to show up using printDevices().

I am using the sample code for printDevices() that comes with proMidi.

Any ideas? I am a midi newbie, so maybe there is something I need to setup on my mac with simpleSynth?

For osx you have to download:

http://texone.org/promidi/promidi_mac.zip

this download include mandolane and should work;
