Starting out in Physical Interaction

Dear all,

I am very new to this forum, and would like to start by asking, on what reading materials are out there to begin understanding the concepts of physical interaction? I've been very interested in video capturing as a means of navigation and interaction within a work.

Thanksss Smiley

this part of the forum is mostly about working with electronics, building things with sensors and motors. while a camera is certainly a sensor, it typically poses more software challenges and is discussed in this section of the discourse:

however, here's a great book about physical interaction:

Physical Computing: Sensing and Controlling the Physical World with Computers, Dan O'Sullivan and Tom Igoe ©2004, Thomson Course Technology PTR; ISBN: 159200346X

i have a copy of the Physical Computing Book, and i just started to read.
They come up with a shopping list, so my question now is, if there is a hardware setup (mainly a microcontroller) wich is recommended for use with processign environment.
Or would you suggest Wiring or Arduino as a starting point?
Or do i mix some things up here and these are two different things?
I have some experience in programming, and i am very interested but unfortunately completely new to physical computing and i am a bit confused now where to start..
