Amoebas ahoy
Sep 8th, 2006, 10:47pm

Just posting in the hope of some constructive feedback.

http://www.robotacid.com/misc/testAmoeba/index.html

The project is working towards the amoebas undergoing cell division and passing on slightly mutated characteristics as well as the possibility of breeding. The idea is to develop this work so that it will create a computer crashing ecology that I can print off as cool-looking pdfs (quite clearly Murakami inspired as well).

The irises by the way indicate the genetic code of the amoeba (I just used a bit of bit-magic to draw the set bits as spokes). I've yet to decide what the possible traits are.

Having some issues with the springs though...

Update!

http://www.robotacid.com/misc/testAmoeba/amoeba.pdf

I've mostly sorted the springs. So long as I keep the nodes on the skin at a minimum of 5 and make sure they are uniform on creation there's no issues. Unfortunately I couldn't get the things to squish and split down the middle during cloning.

I've introduced mutation on cloning and the engines moving the amoebas pretty much do all the spawning and eating.

I'm figuring on the plankton being ejected from the amoebas and their genetic code goes along with it, so when other plankton eat it they crossover their genes. Not sure how to manage that though.

Whee! All done. Time to work on some big prints I guess, there's also the possibility of a screensaver as well I suppose.

I uploaded to codetree but for some reason the anti-aliasing is turned off on codetree. There is also some issues with spring tension, but I'm sure I can iron that out.

The final result is a closed energy system of necrophages. Dying Amoebas spit out dna which is eaten by others and used to alter their own dna to make different Amoebas. I made the whole thing look quite cute so I could transfer it to print.
