Processing 2D speed

Greetings from a newbie and I hope I don't make myself sound dumb ... ;p

I have just started coding little projects to make some 2D shapes (ellipses, polygons) that moves around (translate), morphs and blends (alpha).

It has been fun and all but I am not impressed by the speed. Just a mere 100 polygons slow everything down to perhaps 2 frames per second.

Is there much I can do about it? Is there some Java compiling tricks I could make this much faster?

Your help would be much appreciated Smiley
