Java runtime...

I was trying to show processing to a friend the other day.

We first installed the new Java runtime (1.5, I believe) on his computer, but processing applets failed to load. Then we uninstalled 1.5 and re-install 1.4.1, but the processing applets still failed. (NullPointerException)

Is it a known issue?

Hi Mark. We were just visiting websites with processing applets, but all failed to load. I don't know if it's a 1.5 problem, or perhaps the installation just messed up his computer.

The Java 1.5 runtime installation experience was pretty bad, I must say.

my guess would be that the installations horked something up, but there's no way to know unless you take a look at what showed up in the java console to see what sort of errors were reported.

i've started a bug db entry to track issues with java 1.5:

so i'll close this thread and if you run across any 1.5-related problems, follow-up can happen over there so we can get it cleaned up. eventually we're gonna be forced to move to 1.5, so may as well start getting straightened out.
