New "Developpers" category in the forum?
Apr 22nd, 2005, 5:33pm

Now that the code is out there, wouldn't it be nice to have a category in the forum for Developpers, maybe with some subcategories of more source-code related topics like: Editor, Core, Rendereres, Libraries,...  all of them specific to developpers instead of to artists/users.

I'm rigth now having a look at the code and have some questions or possible bugs, and it would be nice to have some communication channel with the developpers.

Let me know what you think!

One of the goals of processing is to begin to remove the gap between "developers" vs. "artists/users".  Wink
All the developers I know currently working on Processing are either accomplished designers or artists.

That said, I have planned a developers section of the site, extremely minimal, but containing the basic information about where things are and what to do.

This site needs to stay clean, simple and without too much technical jargon. I was planning an email list rather than using the forum for this purpose. We have mailman up and running now and I think that will work well.

There is a forum category related to building libraries.

I'm interested to know what other think.

I think it's a good point Casey.
Just finished reading the book Technics and Civilization of Lewis Mumford, and one of the conclusions I have extracted is that the gap between techonology and other domains must disappear.  I would also like Processing to keep going in that direction.
Your argument has convinced me to not put the Developpers zone in the forum or even on this site.  But I do think there should be a place and a way in which people could communicate about how Processing's inside works.  I think the mailing list is a good way and I would like to know if I could join in.

Personnally, I have taken a look at the code and I think I can help out with several things.  But don't want to be an obstacle either.

Yes, we certainly want help with the code. That is one of the goals. It's been open such a short time we haven't yet discussed the best way to manage it. We're pushing to get a next release out soon and will talk about it after.

Ben and I had a talk and the result was adding the new section to the board. There is now a section for Libraries and Tools and a section for Open Source development with Processing.
