hi, what 3d program do I use to produce an .obj file? I DLed the maya learning edition but it only saves as MAYAple or something like that. -ess

there are some programs which are capable of producing .obj-Files. Originally it is a format used by LightWave. If you are looking for a free modeller, i would recommend WINGS.

I also recommend Wings, this coming from a full-time Maya/Max user. It's lightweight, and perfect for making OBJs for programmers/artists alike.
