Does Processing have special functions that deal with XML file loading and parsing?

sun's java2 speaks xml fluently, but if you use the xml stuff, it won't work for a large part of your exported applet's audience (that still use microsoft java 1.1 virtual machines).
in other words: it will work within your processing ide, but not much more than that.
i know that there are some small open-source java packages that handle xml for old java versions, but it's not trival to incorporate them within processing.
