Flash, the defining app for interactive graphics, works great until you overload it with data. Then it crashes. Few designers want to tackle C++ and Java, so they've turned to Processing. The open source software replaces all three

Hmm... where the hell is Director and Lingo in this? And: "Webdesign for dummies" ?
Is it me or is that just a very strange title?

...oh well (no more complaints from me!), great to see P5 mentioned in WIRED though

no it's not just you, web design for dummies is a very strange title actually!

but it may translate how proce55ing could be perceived by a "new" generation of users.

i mean it's actually much easier to start coding and see results (sketching in one word) with proce55ing than with anything else (flash and director included) i can think of...

funny how this "new generation of users" could be similar to the before-last generation (mine, teenage in the eighties) of self-taught coders who started with a c64, spectrum, amstrad, msx, etc. when the primary interface of the computer was the BASIC programming language!

Is this the first step to Processing's world domination?

Blush.  Mr. Malka, you rock my world.

Aside -------
"the program is so easy that more than 1,000 digital artists, including Sodaplay creator Ed Burton, have already downloaded the alpha version."

I like that they practically implied Ed Burton was an idiot.  Like he needs 'easy' programs.  Might as well have said, "the program is so easy that more than 1,000 digital artists, even someone as slow as Ed Burton, have already downloaded the alpha version.'

But maybe its just the Campari talking.  Congrats on the mention.

Wouldn't it be cool if someone made a website with Processing? Something like flight404's page, but totally made in Processsing instead of Flash.
Just an idea...

I guess that dummies could be seen as more accessible. Programming for non-programmers. Maybe it's just a bad way to say that P55 is clear as evevryone could understand what he do. This is a great goal in fact. I guess that I saw the book Assembly coding for Dummies or something like that.

It's good to see that P55 is seen as accessible and clear for everyone, not just for an elite mathematicians.
