Portable applets?  Ancient CRTs?
« on: Apr 30th, 2004, 9:23am »

I know very little about wiring and chip capability... Does anyone know of a way to program [not necessarily p5 or related] something into a chip and run it through a small LCD?  I'm interested in creating modular, semiportable [wall mounted] displays.  Video kiosks in galleries have seen their days.

On a somewhat related note, I have a 512k Mac and a mac Classic II - and I think the tiny B/W CRT is just beautiful.  Any ideas on how I could put these babies to use?  Too big of a shock hazard to have in an exhibition space?  Could I get/make some crazy video adaptor and run it as an external to my laptop?

Keyspan makes USB to DB9 serial adapters which are supported in P5. those can be run into a serial LCD or microcontroller.

those older all-in-one macs will support ZIP drives thru their SCSI ports. And i believe they have serial outs as well (perhaps not on the oldest, but my SE30 has them).

I have a few slideshow programs that'll run PICT files in any order you specify. I have no idea how to create programs/use ports on old macs though.
