I've installed the 'expert' version on my other pc as well(win2k) and the caret works fine.
so right now I have it working on both XP and win2k with JRE 1.4.1_02

i've finally found a machine that has the caret bug. as soon as i get some time i'm gonna try and track the little fukker down.

caret bug has been tracked down and repaired. rev 53 (available sometime this week) will have the fix.
for those curious, it appears to be a java awt bug, where rectangles of width zero aren't always drawn for all video cards (they should be a single pixel line). so the workaround is to draw a line instead of a rectangle.
