Gene Slider - explore conservation or entropy in homologous gene and protein sequences

Gene Slider is a data visualization tool written in Processing and Processing.js for exploring the entropy or conservation of homologous genes, from a broad overview all the way down to just a few residues at a time. Users can upload aligned DNA and protein FASTA files to make Sequence Logos that they can zoom in and out of, filter, and access details on demand. A search function makes it easy to find query motifs by simply "drawing" a SeqLogo in the search panel. An annotation function makes it possible to add notes. Work sessions can be saved, loaded and shared.

Written by Jamie Waese, Asher Pasha and Nicholas Provart at the University of Toronto. We presented a poster for it at BioVis 2013, part of the IEEE Vis conference a couple weeks ago. It may be a bit technical for causal users, but it's a nice example of a complete app written in Processing.

We heard that one of Ben Fry's first sketches was a visualization of a genome. Hopefully this is up his alley!!
