Course examples not running

edited August 2014 in General Discussion

I'm in a six weeks course that ends Monday, it said no programming experience required but then they said most students are expected to have programming experience so it was kind of misleading. what they want is for us to down load their programs and alter them but when I go to download them. I guess the problem is when I try to extract them or export them but some how I get an error and I'm not able to run the processing sketch like the one in class so how can I alter it? I'm upset because there's suppose to be help available on the forums but there's never enough help and I've asked other students and TA's but I haven't heard anything from the TA's and the other student's are telling me to as the TA's. Not much support in this class at all. This is why so many students quit. But I'm on Signature tract and I'm almost done. I use Windows 7. Here is my email address, AngelXbmc@Gmail.com. Thank you. Below are the instructions they gave for the final assignment but somehow I can't get it to work can anyone help me? Thanks again.

  • Your link does not work.

Instead, do you have a concrete problem you like solved? Can you run any of the example sketches that come with Processing?

  • Have you looked at the links I just posted? Basically none of the sketches run like the ones from class. If you click on one of the links like the third or fourth you may see the music machine or I could send it to you.

    The links requires login...

  • But the last one, is a download. The codes inside the zip file runs flawlessly...

  • You are not answering my question the codes do not run flawlessly on my computer, do they run flawlessly on yours? What do you mean they run flawlessly? that's the truble they don't run at all.

This forum is not suitable for rants about online courses, if you have those I suggest you take it up with the course instructors on Coursera. Also, posting links that require special login is kind of pointless. I have changed the title of your thread to make it more descriptive. Please don't double-post, I have removed the other identical thread.

This forum is suitable for help with Processing, but as @colouredmirrorball stated then you should ask a concrete question and provide relevant information.

I have downloaded the last zip as well. It seems, besides the templates, there are three variants of each example (android, desktop, javascript). It makes most sense to use the DESKTOP examples as those will run on the java version aka regular Processing. I have tried BasicDrumMachine_Desktop, MusicMachine_Desktop and SynthTest_Desktop and they all run on Processing 2.2.1.

Note that for the Processing 3.0 alpha's the Minim library has been removed.

Finally, statements like "it doesn't work" or "it doesn't run" are useless when asking for help. At least provide the error message that you are getting, if you want us to give suggestions on how to solve the problem.

  • And as said, the links to the Coursera site are not reachable without an account on this site.

  • I Posted them twice because I was not sure to get a response before Monday and I came here for help not to berated by a sacastic ahole. I did post the errors. If you don't have something positive to say mind your own business Amnon!!! People don't need the likes of . It's not my job to teach you good manners my God grow up already.

    Forum etiquette forbids duplicate posts

You did not post any error messages, you simply state you had errors

You post links to a site that requires a secure login and expect others to be able to access them

AND then you expect people to pull answers out of the air like magic.

Amnon was not rude he was simply stating facts and fullfilling his role as forum moderator.

If anyone needs to grow up and learn manners its you.

  • +1 to quark's remarks. Note: amnon, quark and me are forum moderators, so:

    1. The remarks we emit are about forum etiquette. Ignore them at your own risk...
    2. amnon took the time to download your file, look into it, and give advices. You didn't even reacted on these remarks, which are relevant to your issue.
    3. Even remarks like the last one are useful, if you take them in account instead of ditching them as blessing your ego, if you plan to ask more help, here or elsewhere: these are the basis to ask for help on technical points!
  • I wonder when moderator @amnon is gonna have an avatar pic! ;;)

  • I have set a temporary avatar @GoToLoop, creating a better one is on my (long) todo-list! :)

  • Yeepee! Now's much easier to recognize your posts! <:-P
