I want to build a GPS-based speedometer for use on a moving railroad car. Here is what I want the "system" to do: 1. Display a large analog dial on a pc monitor or ipad. 2. Display altitude, direction, grade, date, time, max speed, max altitude, miles traveled 3. Log above data for subsequent processing. 4. Detect and report via text, email, or whatever any/all changes in car movement state ("now its moving", "now its stopped").
Here is what I have available: 1. 120VAC 2. 12VDC 3. +5VDC 4. laptop (no serial port) 5. ipad 6. LAN not connected to the internet 7. LAN connected to the internet 8. 1 brand new Arduino with starter kit (being shipped late this week)
How many Arduinos will I need? How do I log data for later use (I have seen shields with SD cards)? Is Processing fully functional on an Arduino?
