"Virtual" midi keyboard software for use with rwmidi?

edited October 2013 in Library Questions

Hello! :)

For a university project, I'm making use of a midi keyboard for an interactive sketch of mine. Unfortunately, I don't own one and the midi keyboards can't be borrowed, making working on the sketch difficult since I don't own one at home.

I was wondering, can I simulate a fake midi keyboard somehow or use some software to send midi signals to the rwmidi library via some sort of on-screen keyboard?

I tried a few software I found around but couldn't figure anything out.

Any help much, much appreciated.

  • Yes. This can be achieved. I have done similar virtual midi project.

For Mac user, you can use Midipipe to active virtual devices or use the Mac system's IAC bus.

On windows I am not as familiar. You probably want something like Midi Yoke or Midi-OX.

I'm on Windows, so I'll wait in hopes someone with Windows experience to post their insight too.
