We closed this forum 18 June 2010. It has served us well since 2005 as the ALPHA forum did before it from 2002 to 2005. New discussions are ongoing at the new URL http://forum.processing.org. Server move in progress
Jun 7th, 2010, 10:23am

Time for a server move! Two things are afoot:

1. We're in the process of moving to a new server.
2. we're moving parts of the project to Google Code:
http://code.google.com/p/processing/

The first part gives us a machine that's more maintainable and up to date (thanks MediaTemple!) We're also hoping this might alleviate some of the latency problems that others have been experiencing. (At the minimum it gives us a better starting point from which to figure things out.)

Part the second is an attempt by Casey and I to have less maintenance responsibilities for all the custom software that's used to run the site, built up over the years since we started in 2001. We're exhausted, and so are the people who have been helping us (Florian, Andres, and PhiLho come to mind most immediately). Our (free) time spent chasing after spammers, cleaning the bugs db, updating bugzilla to the latest release, etc all takes away from our efforts to work on more important aspects of Processing itself (better software, better reference).

At any rate, probably the first thing you'll notice is that the bugs database has moved, and can be found here:
http://code.google.com/p/processing/issues/list

Soon, the old bugs database will be saved in static form, and then the server behind it shut down. Links will be added to the static versions to direct you to the right location.

Active bugs have been imported into the new database, though we may have lost some CC people in the process, since you need a Google account to be CCed.

At any rate, keep an eye out--I don't want anyone getting hit by a falling steel beam, a glop of plaster, or a sheet of plywood as we make the transition. You've been warned!

The move for the bugs database is now finished, and the old bugzilla pages have been made into static .html files. Let us know if you find anything weird (by filing a bug, not responding here).

Just 1/6th of the SVN move to go, I expect it to finish sometime in the next couple hours. At the moment, the old SVN has been shut off to prevent problems.

A quick update...

The download files have now moved to Google Code (the new locations are linked on the download page). This will hopefully improve download times a bit.

The SVN server move is complete, the latest code is now here:
http://code.google.com/p/processing/source/checkout

We've been adding redirects as much as we possibly can. Perhaps ridiculously so.

The wiki is up and running: http://wiki.processing.org.

Casey's also working on a forum move, and the site will also soon be receiving a fresh coat of paint, simplifying the structure a bit to reflect the changes that have been made. More soon...

No, though the slow connection is one of the reasons for the move. We're hoping that the new server will either fix the problem or if not, give us a better starting point from which to figure out what's causing the problem.
