control quicktime player by shell commands

Hi all,

does anybody know if there's a way to control the quicktime player by shell commands?

This might be a funny question in this forum, but my problem is this: In a sketch i got a full hd movie in the background. when playing this movie with processing, it's not working very fast & stable. what i want to do now, is using an external player and putting an semitransparent p5 frame on top of it. this is working with vlc player, but the frame is flickering. with quicktime it would be perfect.

so anybody got an idea? or how do you guys play huge movies?

cheers
timm
