Agent based System/Self-Organization/Architecture

We recently finished our AADRL master course in London and wanted to share the work. Done mainly in processing and some rhinoScript.

The work consists in agent based systems that self-organize to achieve a dynamic state of equilibrium. The formations are developed for an adaptative landscape in the thames estuary.

we also are starting a code site as we have started teaching @ the architectural association, London.

It looks great, but I have to admit that I didn't catch the point. What exactly is happening here and why?

What we did was use processing and the flocking algorithm to evaluate large datasets from a site importing them as txt files. This information allowed each agent in the flock to take decisions for architectural critirea, like where to touch the ground and how to conform a structure. The emergent formations from the interactions were analysed based on curvature to further develop geometry. The material system was developed in parallel and also informed the agents allowing degrees of freedom and constrains. The agenda was to develop an adaptative system that could self organize in a given environment.

Thanks, it is now much clearer. But the aim was to built what: roofs? bridges? buildings? nice structures?

The project was an artificial landscape, containing infrastructure for marinas and some sort of prototypical in-habitation. In that sense, the program wasn't to detailed, the focus was the adaptive system.
