minim FFT: strange frequency bias

I'm toying with the minim FFT tools for the first time. Even when using the examples from the Minim website, I'm finding that lower frequencies are less dynamic and more loud than higher frequencies, even more so than is normal for an FFT.

I've been able to compensate for this a bit by using a Hamming window, and by displaying the frequency bars by DB height instead of absolute height, but it's still a noticable bias.

Has anyone else observed this, or am I seeing phantoms? Can anyone recommend some better solutions?

Thanks!
