GSVideo/WinXP/FireWire: Unable to Capture Video
Jan 4th, 2010, 10:53am

Hi,

I seem to be unable to use my FireWire DV camcorder with Andres' GSVideo library. The "GettingStartedCaptureWin" capture example that comes with the library fails to work. When run, I'm presented with a blank grey screen and the following PDE console error message:

** (java.exe:3644): WARNING **: ks_video_format_to_structure returned NULL

However, GSCapture.list() returns:

AVC Compliant DV Camcorder

...so I assume the lib is able to detect the camera but for some reason it is unable to actually use it.

The camcorder works fine with all other programs on the system (Premier, Skype, Movie Maker, etc).

Specs:
Cam: JVC MiniDV (model: GR-D240EK)
OS: Windows XP (SP 3)

Just to note, I have installed and successfully used GSVideo capture with my EEEPC 901's inbuilt webcam. I'm guessing this issue is related to the problem some people seem to be having using FireWire DV camcorders on Linux?

If anyone has any ideas on how to get it working, I'd be very grateful.

Cheers!

NB: I forgot to mention, the FireWire camcorder works fine with the native video library.
