Where to start with visualizing
Dec 5th, 2009, 5:26am

I'm a software engineer, so the programming aspect of processing doesn't scare me.

I'm new to visualizing data even though I had a short stint as a student assistant in helping visualize meteorological scientific data.

I'm insanely interested in getting started with creating useful visualizations of all kinds of data but I'm not really sure where to start.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest articles, books, anything on the methodology of designing useful visualizations?

Thanks.

(I should add that i picked up "Visualizing data" but am looking for something less focused on the programming and more focused on the design of visualizations).

I highly recommend finding a copy of this http://www.amazon.com/Visual-Display-Quantitative-Information-2nd/dp/0961392142/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1260237237&sr=8-1

Your local library might have a copy of it too.
